EAA CHAPTER 1111 BARBEQUE AND FLY TIME

Our July 1st meeting was intentionally less business and more fun, due to all the work done for the Young Eagles and fly In on June 12.  My thanks to all of you who showed up with appetites, and some with airplanes, for an evening of fun, food, and flying.

To help offset the cost of the food purchased for the June 12the event, the surplus food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pop and chips were sold. This food was supplemented with great salads, cold cuts, pies. Thanks to all!

For air work (Can we call it work?), Jim Ylvisaker, Mark Edwards, Henry Schmitt, and Jerry Sorrell provided airplanes.

Our next meeting will again be held at the EAA hangar on the northwest corner of the field. Bring your lawn chairs. We will have snacks, but will not be cooking. Save room for dessert. Maybe we can go for the pie and ice cream this time.  If you have a flying machine, bring it over for an opportunity to give rides to those who desire.

COMING UP:  Start thinking about the annual meeting. We soon have to appoint  a nominating committee. Every EAA member participating in some way helps build the strength and consistency of our chapter. Invite a friend who may be the next EAA Chapter 1111 member.

ARLINGTON FLY IN REPORT

On Thursday, July 8, Mike Lewis and I flew to Arlington for a day’s look at all of the vendor’s displays and various aircraft. We had to alter the course, as clouds covered some of the foothills along the route, east of Chehalis. Mike was taking in-flight pictures with his cell phone / camera and sending them to Sam and Sandy Archer who were at Arlington. This may be a new method  of “flight following” .

At Arlington, we found Sam and Sandy stocking up on various goodies. Sam said he was getting himself a birthday present. He was buying for the future and was already up to his birthday in 2010, and this was only the 2nd day of Arlington. (It is good to plan birthdays ahead like this.)

EAA headquarters sent me two booklets that are the NOTAMS for the OSHKOSH fly in. These NOTAMS total 60 pages. Anyone planning on flying in to Oshkosh will need these NOTAMS. Send me an e mail if you want the booklet, if you would rather not download this on your computer. Mail outs will be determined by order of e mail receipt on my computer.

Wag-Aero Super Sport makes first showing at Arlington. In spite of having to dodge rain showers to and from, Saturday was rain free and a good time for all.  See you at the meeting, Mark

My name is Fritz Guenther and have been down to several of your fly-ins. I am the Young Eagles coordinator for EAA chapter 609 in Chehalis, WA.

Weather permitting we have scheduled our annual Young Eagles Rally for Saturday, August 14th at the Chehalis Airport from 9 am to 4PM. Food and beverages will be provided for all YE pilots. We also have to date 200 gallons of avgas and hope to have more fuel donations by then.

Following the rally we are going to have a roast beef dinner for $6 /person.

We are asking all pilots to bring copies of their liability insurance.

Fly Safe,

Fritz Guenther

Minutes/Notes From Last Meeting

The last meeting was an impromptu wind-down after the annual fly-in.  The chapter met in the hangar and had a pot luck style bar-b-que.

Calendar of events

Next Board Meeting: Thursday August 5th, 6:00 pm in the EAA 1111 Hangar at the Northwest corner of the Kelso airport

Next Club Meeting: Thursday August 5th, 7:00 pm in the EAA 1111 Hangar at the Northwest corner of the Kelso airport

We will have a guest speaker who has had many years of Navy flying experience in a variety of aircraft from props to jets.

The weather should be OK, so if you have a plane, bring it to the meeting and share a ride later in the program.

Bob Taylor and his wife are vacationing in the islands, so we will again be responsible for the “food” part of the program.

Jerry Sorrell will bring ice cream. Will everyone bring enough pie for themselves plus a little more, and we will have pie and ice cream. And… bring your camp chairs or folding chairs too.

There are still cold rinks in the refrigerator, so we will sell this.

Our meeting will also be the time to appoint the nominating committee for the officers to be elected in the October meeting. It’s that time already!

Classifieds

Please Note!!! All classifieds will start to bear a date. After they have been in the newsletter for 3 publications, they will be moved to the classifieds section of the EAA 1111 web page. Thank you in advance for alerting the editor when and if your ad can be removed.

Jerry Sorrell has donated a 110-120 volt 1 horsepower air compressor, with regulator, to the chapter. It will be placed in the EAA hangar. It has a 25 foot hose but no fittings on the end. Who has some quick connectors and a tire inflator? This compressor is good for a standard spray gun, rivet gun, air drill, etc. It has pushed enough air to paint at least 20 cars and assemble one RV-4 so it has proven its worth. The compressor is not suitable to run air sanders or long term use of grinders or cut off tools. That takes about 5 horsepower to do a decent job. We hope the circuit breakers are high enough amps at the hangar. This compressor needs a heavy duty extension cord if it is to be any distance from the outlet.

Vacation rental for pilots - taken from an email...
Hi,
My name is Linda Tiritilli. My husband Tony & I are members of EAA chapter 393 based at Buchanan Field in Concord, CA. Tony & I bought a home at Roche Harbor Skyways, a residence airpark on San Juan Island, WA. We hope to retire there in a few years but in the mean time we've made it available as a vacation rental for pilots. Please take a look at our website at http://www.lobsterfarm.biz/. If possible we'd like to put an ad in your chapter newsletter and/or a link on your website. We may be reached by telephone at (925) 674-1001 or by return email.
Best regards,
Linda Tiritilli

Hello,
I live in Svensen, Or. near Astoria at Karpen field. We don't have an EAA chapter down hear, you guys are the closest. I am building a Bearhawk from plans, it is steel tube and fabric fuselage and has all aluminum wings. I am looking for some used tools. I need many clecos. about 300 to 500 silver (3/32), 50 Black (5/32), and about 10 or so brass (3/16), side grip clecos. I also am looking for other tools; a rivet cutter, dimpling dies, a 3X rivet gun, rivet squeezer, bucking bars, etc. I am also looking for someone within a reasonable distance from where I live who has an 8ft. bending brake.
I have most of my wing ribs completed and have all my spar webs bent into "C" channel. I have acquired a few clecos from my neighbor who has built a Starduster too, but need many more. I already have many other tools useful in building a homebuilt; drill press, tig welder, band saw, bench sander, etc. and I built a 4ft. X 18ft. construction table that will be very useful to another builder when I am finished with it.
I am hoping that a EAA chapter will start down here so that I can get together with some local builders, buy you guys aren't that far away.
thanks much,
Lloyd Biddlecome
