Important Dates -
Executive meeting at 5:30'ish, regular meeting at 7'ish. The first Thursday of February (Thursday, February 4th).
Minutes From Last Month
Attending: Al Drewry, Dwight Irby, Mark Edwards, Jerry Sorrell
The meeting was kept brief. Al provided the financial report and Dwight and Jerry completed the annual status report to mail to EAA HQ. The total insurance and annual dues were the same as last year. $900.00 Need to have the books audited.
Pizza served for the members, beginning at 6:30.
Regular Meeting of the membership at 7 pm.
For some reason, we had a record low attendance. President Irby dispensed with the drawing, and annual awards to the officers, but we did make the rounds for the happy events.
Jerry reported on the water damage when a pipe froze in the wall and burst to flood the kitchen, bathroom and part of the dining area. The city has committed to make repairs at their expense.
Our Guest speaker was Mike Houtchens of NW Airtech, located in the FBO building. Mike spoke about annual inspections, keeping logbooks up to date and how he computerizes the records for his customers. He also handed out a great annual inspection / condition inspection check list. Every aircraft owner should have this list to become better acquainted with the items that the mechanic will be inspecting.
About six of us went to the FBO for the shop tour. Various aircraft under inspection or repair were examined.
Next meeting is Thursday Feb 4th. At this time we do not know if the clubhouse will be under repairs. Watch for e mail and web site updates.

Project Updates
Well folks, it has been a long time since things have moved on the Express project. Eric Hoppe finally decided to move it to the factory at the Toledo airport to utilize the factory assist option. It is amazing how fast time flies when one pays another dearly for help!! A few modifications to the original plan to utilize some improvements and we are on our way.

Interesting stuff
Thanks to the wonder of the internet, an individual in Kansas contacted Jerry about the Cherokee II sailplane associated with our chapter. Jerry told him the project is 'hangar art' in Eric Hoppe's shop. Future contact may be very interesting and we will keep you posted. Check out his official Cherokee II web site at http://cherokeesailplanes.blogspot.com/
A Moment to Reflect
Potentially...
probably unknown to any pilots in the PNW, Aarol Alden "AA" Hoppe died this week
at 91. He received a
scholarship for $8 at the age of 19 and was accepted into the second Logan
County Civil Aviation Authority class to learn to fly. He was drafted into
the U.S. Army on Dec, 2, 1941 and was promptly accepted into military pilot
training. After graduation in Lubbock, Texas, on Feb. 15, 1943, he became a
flight instructor until being sent to the Pacific theatre where he flew C-46's
and followed the front from New Guinea to Tokyo, pulling gliders and hauling
wounded soldiers and cargo until WW II ended. He was honorably discharged as a
Captain in 1946. AA was Eric Hoppe's
grandfather.
---Although I have never seen it, AA always said he was discharged with five
hours short of ten thousand hours in his log book. I look forward to
seeing the logbook this weekend. ---eric
