Al gave Jerry the info to bill the city for the excessive electrical usage during the repair time.
The 501-C3 Non-Profit IRS forms have been filled out and filed. All ten pages of it have been painstakingly reviewed and completed by Jerry. He will be submitting additional information to the IRS for an explanation of contributions.
Dwight wants to know what we will do for Young Eagles. We will all need to cast our eyes upon Mr. Edwards for an answer.
Bill Heath will probably lead the meeting on the first if Dwight is not back from California.
We are looking for food ideas... No... wait... Al said he would burn burgers!
We hope to get a tech report this weekend from Jerry.
We really need to get our membership up. If anyone has any great ideas, please see Mr. Pearson. We are currently at 21 members. A far cry from where we were a couple years ago.
Learn to Fly Day is May 15th.
Do you get the EAA Hotline emailed to you? If not, sign up! It is easy and free for EAA members.
Legislative Stuff
This is the current status of the ½% excise tax proposed by the Washington House of Representatives.
Basically, it’s a test of wills between the Senate and the House. We need to keep up the pressure on Representatives in the House to mend their ways, and support for Senators for their efforts to deep six this crushing tax increase. Polite emails, phone calls, and visits are in order. Thank them for their service to the State, and urge them to oppose the ½% annual excise tax on aircraft. It’s a question of jobs, jobs, jobs…
In other words, it’s time to EMAIL, CALL, or VISIT your Senator or Representative yet again! Find your Senators and Representatives at the following link: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/default.aspx?city=&street=&zip=
Here’s a list of emails for all of the members of the House of Representatives. We have a few Representatives on the Democratic side of the isle who are leaning toward dropping the aircraft excise tax, but not near enough. Thanks to Doug Cheney from Martin Field for compiling the list.

Subject: RE: Status Check on ESSB 6143
I just sent a follow-up email to the lead lobbyist . . . asking for directions. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear something.
Last night I received a note from Chuck Kegley as a response to Bruce Hinds, Washington Seaplane Pilots Association. The basics are still in play. The Senate is opposed to any excise tax and Rep. Hunter wants the 122 jet-jocks (down from 135) to pay through the nose. It is a test of wills. Chuck was most appreciative about all the letters coming from everyone.

FREE ENGINE OVERHAUL
This headline appeared in one of aviation magazines I subscribe to. The truth is that the overhaul would not actually be free, but if I chose to operate my aircraft engine on automotive gas, (Mogas) the money saved over the life of the engine would pay for the overhaul. Let’s see.
First, the rules: Burning Mogas may only legally be done if a certified aircraft has the Mogas Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) or if the aircraft is an “Experimental”. I have used “Mogas” in my RV-4 with the Lycoming O-320 E-2-D which is the low compression engine and which is covered by numerous Mogas STC’s in factory aircraft. I feel I am operating in safe territory, and with over 1,300 hours on the engine, all is well.
With a fuel burn of 8 gallons per hour and Mogas at one dollar per gallon less than Avgas, every hour of flight is eight dollars per hour cheaper. Assuming I might overhaul the engine at the TBO of 2,000 hours, I will have “saved” $16,000 in fuel and that would make a nice reserve for an overhaul. Now, if I had only put the difference in the bank…
