Important Dates -
First Thursday of the month. Be there... We will have an executive meeting at 5:ish and start the regular digs at 6:30.
Upcoming stuff
The clubhouse is born again!! Come on in and check it out!
Big Al will be doing chili dogs. Dwight will have a picture show of the new house and hangar in Bermuda Dunes, CA.
Notes from Earlier Meetings- Exec or otherwise
The meeting came to order at about 7. There were 14 members present.
Special thanks went out to Jerry for all his work in getting the clubhouse back online. It is simply astounding how much dough the city spent on the repairs!!
We have $1949.08 in checking and $2326.23 in savings.
The idea came up to try to get the EAA Flying Fortress in town. If we could swing it, it is almost surely a money maker. Further discussion ensued and we realized the Kelso airport is not long enough. Bummer!
There was another seminar at Pierson. "How to use your E6B". What?
There is still a fight going on about the status of the 0.5% excise tax on the value of our airplanes.
What's the latest on the airport master plan? They are looking to extend the runway 600' to the South. It will make the airport more business friendly and more viable.
Jerry's neighbor made a really cool home-made 2D CNC machine to make cut outs.
An update on the IRS compliance. If anyone gives more than $5,000 to the NPO in a year we will have to register them. We are waiting to register someone!
Jerry talked about the periodical "Light Plane Maintenance". Not cheap, but a magazine with fantastic substance. There are many editions available in the clubhouse.
We had a guest - Loren Sievila. He has a '150 on the field and wants to build an RV-9A. He is consultant working in IR, Ultrasonic Testing and Airborne Ultrasound.
We really need to get our membership up. If anyone has any great ideas, please see Mr. Pearson. We are currently at 21 members. A far cry from where we were a couple years ago.
Do you get the EAA Hotline emailed to you? If not, sign up! It is easy and free for EAA members.
Legislative Stuff
I know this was in the last newsletter. It's worth another run. Don't let your government run you over.
This is the current status of the ½% excise tax proposed by the Washington House of Representatives.
Basically, it’s a test of wills between the Senate and the House. We need to keep up the pressure on Representatives in the House to mend their ways, and support for Senators for their efforts to deep six this crushing tax increase. Polite emails, phone calls, and visits are in order. Thank them for their service to the State, and urge them to oppose the ½% annual excise tax on aircraft. It’s a question of jobs, jobs, jobs…
In other words, it’s time to EMAIL, CALL, or VISIT your Senator or Representative yet again! Find your Senators and Representatives at the following link: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/default.aspx?city=&street=&zip=
Here’s a list of emails for all of the members of the House of Representatives. We have a few Representatives on the Democratic side of the isle who are leaning toward dropping the aircraft excise tax, but not near enough. Thanks to Doug Cheney from Martin Field for compiling the list.

I just sent a follow-up email to the lead lobbyist . . . asking for directions. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear something.
Last night I received a note from Chuck Kegley as a response to Bruce Hinds, Washington Seaplane Pilots Association. The basics are still in play. The Senate is opposed to any excise tax and Rep. Hunter wants the 122 jet-jocks (down from 135) to pay through the nose. It is a test of wills. Chuck was most appreciative about all the letters coming from everyone.

Project Updates
Bill Heath's 701 coming along nicely. Major components done. Now for the details!

Tech Counselor Notes
PROPER CLAMPING FOR CONDUITS, CONDUCTORS, AND LINES ON AIRCRAFT
The FAA Advisory Circular's cover the procedures for properly clamping hoses, lines, wires, etc on the airframe, motor mount or engine.
However, in recent times, the use of the plastic “tie wraps” has become very popular. Tie wraps may be used in some applications such as holding wire looms together. There are other instances where securing a tie wrap to a motor mount tube can result in the tie wrap wearing into the metal and causing a weakened stress point.

In this photo, the tie wraps are holding the wires against a motor mount tube. This is the example of what not to do. Vibration will cause the wraps to erode the metal. According to the experts, only use Adel clamps on tubes such as this.

In this photo, one Adel clamp on the motor mount supports another Adel clamp for an electrical conductor. This is the proper way as the Adel clamp is tight on the tube.
When tie wraps are used, do not use cheapo junk polypropylene type as these will disintegrate due to oxidation, heat, etc. Use only nylon tie wraps.

Hello to Everyone!
Good golly, has it been a year ALREADY?
Yes we are preparing
for the 4TH ANNUAL FANTASY FIELD FLY-IN,
hosted
by Kelly and Terry Sullivan.
I can’t get over the amount of emails I have received about this year’s
fly-in! Thank you all for your support and encouragement.
This year our fly-in will be on Saturday June 19th, which is the day before Father's Day.
We had to move it up a week due to some scheduling conflicts with the SuperCub Competition up north on the following weekend. Kelly likes to attend that competition and show those Cub drivers how to fly!!!
We are clearing more fields for aircraft parking and camping. I have spent the winter months cruising Craigslist for more tables and chairs. I was thinking we should have a theme to this year’s fly-in.....everybody wear Hawaiian shirts! I plan to take lots of pictures this year, since I have heard that a couple of rarities will be flying in!
What better way can you think of to start the summer off, than a home-grown, grassroots fly-in, in your own backyard!
We love having this fly-in, because it is more than just aviation: it feels more like a big family barbecue. Young and old, pilots, teachers, doctors, beauticians, engineers, blue collar and more; we all have a great time together and enjoy the sun, good food, great friends and family, flying and fun. Last year’s attendance was awesome, with almost 50 aircraft! We had planes come in from as far away as California and eastern Montana.
We enjoyed such a wide representation of our aviation community; from certified's to experimentals, ultralights, trikes and 'chutes. I would love to host a balloon (hint-hint), or maybe even another impromptu fly-by (like we had the first year, by a "colorful" group of Navions.)
As usual, we (no, I don’t have a mouse in my pocket) will be doing the grilling and provide the beverages; all we ask is that you bring your most delicious side dish, salad or dessert!
There
is always a restroom facility, plus a wash-up station and we are hoping
to provide more shade areas for people to relax under. We will still
have plenty of off-street parking for those who choose to drive in. And
yes, there will be camping sites available, especially for those who
want to stay for happy hour, hangar talk and that late night poker
game.
I am getting myself all excited just talking about it! Put it on your calendar....June 19th! Can't wait to see you all here! Bring on the sunshine!!!!

We are known as FA99, Fantasy Field Airstrip a private field, and on the

Until then, wishing you all good flying and smooth air!

Funny Stuff
His request approved, the CNN News photographer quickly used a cell phone to call the local airport to charter a flight. He was told a twin-engine plane would be waiting for him at the airport. Arriving at the airfield, he spotted a plane warming up outside a hanger. He jumped in with his bag, slammed the door shut, and shouted, 'Let's go.' The pilot taxied out, swung the plane into the wind and took off. Once in the air, the photographer instructed the pilot, 'Fly over the valley and make low passes so I can take pictures of the fires on the hillsides.' 'Why?' asked the pilot. 'Because I'm a photographer for CNN,' he responded, 'and I need to get some close up shots.' The pilot was strangely silent for a moment. Finally he stammered, 'So, what you're telling me, is . . . You're NOT my flight instructor?'
