KELSO EAA CHAPTER 1111

2004 FLY IN YOUNG EAGLES FOLLOW UP

Thanks to all of you who participated in the activities for the Fly In and Young Eagles flights. The guest activity was not as intense as we have seen in the past, but most importantly, we had a safe, fun, and 99.9% dry event. I hope all of you did have a good time, even though it was a long day for many.

The extra help comprised of family and friends was great too. While working the car parking, numerous people arrived who said they were going to help with the EAA or FBO activities. Please extend a thank you to those you asked to come out to join us.

Merrill and Keith at the FBO said the crowd was not as big as they wanted, but they got four new starts for flight training. They did have some scenic flight activity, and we appreciate the relocation of planes from the south ramp tie downs so the static displays and Young Eagles flights could be accomplished easily.

There is some statistical and financial information I want to collect and forward to EAA so they are up to speed on what we did. Let’s cover this at the executive meeting at 6 pm on Thursday.

On the subject of flying, food, and fun, some of our members commented to me about how much they enjoyed the “informal meeting and meal” we had at Sam and Sandi’s hangar on June 3rd. I was given a suggestion that through the summer months, we should do a barbeque at a suitable hangar. Bring hot dogs, steaks burgers etc, or hot dish, salad, dessert. Invite a friend who would be a good candidate for EAA membership. Bring the family. A propane barbeque will be provided.

To further promote aviation and encourage those who are working on those long term restoration, kit, or plans-built planes, those of us with flying machines can offer rides after we eat. These “booster shots” can be important in keeping the builder enthused. I think this is a great idea for July, August, and September.

Many thanks to all who helped make this fly-in a reality. It could not be done without all your support.

Plane Thoughts

This might be something of personal interest... The FAA has stopped issuing FAA certificate numbers based on your SSN, but had been doing so for a couple of decades. The bad guys have figured this out and it has become an identity theft problem for many pilots and mechanics. If your FAA number is your SSN then you might want to use the attached form to make the request to get your certificate(s) changed. Please see the attached Adobe pdf file - SSN_Change.pdf

Minutes/Notes From Last Meeting

The last meeting of members was the annual fly-in at the Kelso Airport.

Calendar of events

Next Board Meeting: Thursday July 1st, 6:00 pm in the EAA 1111 Hangar at the Kelso FBO

Next Club Meeting: Thursday July 1st, 7:00 pm in the EAA 1111 hangar

EXEC BOARD MEETING - REPORT ON THE FLY IN, YOUNG EAGLES.

THE HANGAR IS LOCATED ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE FIELD. SAME GENERAL LOCATION AS LAST MONTH WHEN SAM AND SANDY HOSTED US, BUT WE WILL BE IN THE SOUTH BAY.

This is a picnic meeting. We need this break after the big fly in young eagle’s event.

Bring either a hot dish, or salad, and dessert. We will have a propane barbeque to burn your burgers and dogs. Steaks too, if you bring them.

Bring your camp chairs and a folding table, plates and eating utensils.

Bring the family and if you are an aircraft owner, bring the plane. If it works out, maybe some rides could be given.

We may have some dogs and beef patties in the freezer, so these could be sold on site to cook. We will have chips and cold pop for sale too. (Fly in leftovers)

Flight Funnies

Near the end of our Saturday fly in, Ron Watajja arrived in his Flybaby. Upon departure, he said he would make a high speed pass over Kelso. This is a picture of what it looked like. http://www.bowersflybaby.com/pix/gorakergo.JPG

Classifieds

Please Note!!! All classifieds will start to bear a date. After they have been in the newsletter for 3 publications, they will be moved to the classifieds section of the EAA 1111 web page. Thank you in advance for alerting the editor when and if your ad can be removed.

Jerry Sorrell has donated a 110-120 volt 1 horsepower air compressor, with regulator, to the chapter. It will be placed in the EAA hangar. It has a 25 foot hose but no fittings on the end. Who has some quick connectors and a tire inflator? This compressor is good for a standard spray gun, rivet gun, air drill, etc. It has pushed enough air to paint at least 20 cars and assemble one RV-4 so it has proven its worth. The compressor is not suitable to run air sanders or long term use of grinders or cut off tools. That takes about 5 horsepower to do a decent job. We hope the circuit breakers are high enough amps at the hangar. This compressor needs a heavy duty extension cord if it is to be any distance from the outlet.

Vacation rental for pilots - taken from an email...
Hi,
My name is Linda Tiritilli. My husband Tony & I are members of EAA chapter 393 based at Buchanan Field in Concord, CA. Tony & I bought a home at Roche Harbor Skyways, a residence airpark on San Juan Island, WA. We hope to retire there in a few years but in the mean time we've made it available as a vacation rental for pilots. Please take a look at our website at http://www.lobsterfarm.biz/. If possible we'd like to put an ad in your chapter newsletter and/or a link on your website. We may be reached by telephone at (925) 674-1001 or by return email.
Best regards,
Linda Tiritilli

Hello,
I live in Svensen, Or. near Astoria at Karpen field. We don't have an EAA chapter down hear, you guys are the closest. I am building a Bearhawk from plans, it is steel tube and fabric fuselage and has all aluminum wings. I am looking for some used tools. I need many clecos. about 300 to 500 silver (3/32), 50 Black (5/32), and about 10 or so brass (3/16), side grip clecos. I also am looking for other tools; a rivet cutter, dimpling dies, a 3X rivet gun, rivet squeezer, bucking bars, etc. I am also looking for someone within a reasonable distance from where I live who has an 8ft. bending brake.
I have most of my wing ribs completed and have all my spar webs bent into "C" channel. I have acquired a few clecos from my neighbor who has built a Starduster too, but need many more. I already have many other tools useful in building a homebuilt; drill press, tig welder, band saw, bench sander, etc. and I built a 4ft. X 18ft. construction table that will be very useful to another builder when I am finished with it.
I am hoping that a EAA chapter will start down here so that I can get together with some local builders, buy you guys aren't that far away.
thanks much,
Lloyd Biddlecome
