Next Club Meeting: Thursday April 7th, 7:00 pm at the Kelso FBO

Program:

AIRSPACE SHARED WITH THE MILITARY… WHEN? WHERE?

Find out more about this at our April meeting. Mr. Wise from the Oregon Air Guard will tell us about the military operation areas and other places where we must be diligent to watch for and avoid military aircraft. His program will include a slide show. In addition to his work for the Air Guard, he has also flown some unique and powerful piston aircraft.

Announcement

Dear EAA Member,

Your presence is requested at the next EAA1111 Chapter meeting to help guide the chapter in a pivotal decision about our future chapter meeting room/club house and hangar options.

We may have the opportunity to occupy one of the large hangars with a potential of leasing an attached chapter meeting room/club house.

We would like as many current members as possible present to help guide the future of the chapter. The chapter meeting will be at the same place, same time as normal, first Thursday of the month ~ Kelso FBO, April 7th, 7:00p.m. If you are not a current paid-up member for 2005, now is the time to bring the dues up to date so you can participate in the discussion and vote.

Sincerely,

Charlie Rosenzweig, Chair

Minutes of March's Meeting

E.A.A. Chapter # 1111 Monthly Meeting Agenda
March 3, 2005

EAA CHAPTER 1111

MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE BOARD / CHAPTER MEETING

MARCH 3, 2005

Charlie Rosenzweig reported the budget for 2005 is being worked on. Keep the accounting basic and easy to understand. Hold all accounts until we have it clearly presented to the membership.

Charlie said that Fernando Cuglievan will be on a two months leave of absence as Treasurer due to work assignments. Charlie has asked Al Drewry to maintain eh records until Fernando returns.  (Note, only the current officers are approved to sign checks; Charlie, Jerry Fernando).

Mark Edwards will take on the duties of membership chairman. He will review the list of  local area FAA registered pilots for an initial invitation mailing. We need to work on our membership.

Paul Brown reported that at our region officers meeting in Puyallup, the statistic was given that only about ˝ of the EAA national members belong to a Chapter.  Mike Lewis thought we should follow up with our regular members to see why they are not showing up at the meetings.

Charlie will ask for more project reports and field trips to see projects underway.

Jim Ylvisaker reported on the fly out committee. A new phone tree is in the works.  Put this on the web page. Recommendation from Jim McClellan: post a time for arrival rather than departure, due to the various cruise speeds.

Jerry reported that the tool loan sheet was available, but will not be posted on the internet. See Jerry for the list.

Mark Edwards was concerned about his EAA hangar use. What is the time limit?  Should hew be looking for a City hangar and vacate the EAA hangar if another chapter member project is about to come to the airport? Jim McClellan thought the hangar was to be used for assembly and then hold unto another project comes along. Marks’ concern is to not end up in the open tie downs. The board needs to clarify in writing to the hangar users. Sam Archer said their agreement was to put up the doors and use the hangars for four years.  Sandy said we would not want someone to move out just to grab and available city hangar and then have the EAA hangar empty with no income. (Later, Paul Brown reviewed the user agreements. Report for the next meeting.)

Paul reported in the EAA regional officers meeting at Puyallup, which both Paul and Jerry attended. Our chapter does most of the EAA typical activities in comparison to the overall EAA chapters.

Committee reports:

Building Committee: Dwight Irby was emphatic about our chapter making a move towards a chapter meeting place / clubhouse.  Our first opportunity should be to secure the “A” row hangar closest to the wash rack.  It is possible that the old “Winsock” café, now being used for mobile food sales, would come up for lease and we should evaluate this site for ourselves. This topic created much discussion.

Charlie proposed that the building committee would come back with a recommendation to act on.  This site must have a sustainable budget so as not to consume our reserves to pay rent and operating expenses.

Eric offered to create post cards to mail to the membership for a special invitation to come to the meeting to act on the “A” hangar and the café. (Jerry later did the mailing).

We discussed a fund raiser which would be to raffle a flight in conjunction with Mt. St. Helens eruption anniversary. The FBO does the flight but we sell the tickets. Bring a publicity recommendation to the next meeting. This item was tabled for further discussion at the next meeting. M/S/C that Paul research and bring a recommendation to the next meeting regarding a gift certificate to be raffled  for a flight by the Kelso FBO.

Sam and Sandy reported on their new hangar at Independence airport.  As of March 3, they now have 23 hours on the ship, and all is well.

Bill Pieper said he is making ailerons for his e -racer. It is important to have them balance correctly.

Warren Snook needs to sandblast and paint some of the welded joints on the airframe of a Kolb M-2 he has.

Mark has not worked too much on the Charger, because he is flying the Cub too much!

Jim Ylvisaker said the Maule is working well, and the engine that had not run for years seems to be doing fine.

Dwight said he wanted to be on the annual meeting group that selects the guest speakers.
