Executive Board Meeting on Thursday August 4th, 6:00p.m. at the Kelso FBO

Next Club Meeting: Thursday August 4th, 7:00 pm at the Kelso FBO

EAA  Chapter 1111 Minutes of the July 7, 2005 meeting

A quorum of the executive officers was not present at 6 p.m. The building committee was in full attendance and reviewed the recommendations to be made at the Chapter meeting at 7 p.m.

Jerry Sorrell, Chapter Secretary and Newsletter editor, acted as chair for the meeting

At the last meeting, the membership voted to allow the building committee to take action on the following items.

The committee as granted authority to enter into a long term lease for Hangar A-6 (This is next to the Windsock). The intent of the chapter is to merge this lease with the Windsock cafe if we can work out this lease with the city. First payment August 1, 2005

The committee was granted authority to enter into an earnest money agreement up to $1,000 with John Hardwick, who holds the current lease to the Windsock Café, for the purpose of assuming his lease with the city, contingent on EAA 1111 entering into an agreeable long term lease with the City of Kelso.  Building Committee to work out the details of the earnest money agreement.

While these minutes are brief, the membership acted on some long term and major items of business.

BUILDING COMMITTEE UPDATE FOR AUGUST 4TH MEETING

Since the July 7th meeting, here is a summary of events to date.

  1. We have entered into a lease with the City of Kelso to lease Hangar A-6 as a EAA Chapter 1111 hangar. ( Note, this is a standard term lease, but will be brought as a long term lease package as we pursue the Windsock Café, known as building A-7) Who out there, who is a current EAA national and EAA chapter 1111 member, is in need of some hangar space?

  1. We have given John Hardwick $500 earnest money to show him we are serious about assuming his lease, but conditional upon a long term lease agreement with the City of Kelso. As of July 14, we have 60 days to reach an agreement with the City.

  1. Jerry Sorrell met with the Kelso Public Works Director, David Sypher on 7-12-05, and explained to him the intention of the chapter to work out a long term lease with the city of Kelso, in a combined package of hangar A-6 and space A-7 (Windsock), and that consideration would be requested for a reduced  lease amount amortized for physical improvements the chapter will propose. David suggested that EAA 1111 rework the existing Hardwick lease and present the reworked lease to him, and he would  then take it to City Council for consideration.

  1. On July 14, 2005, Jerry Sorrell and Charlie Rosenzweig presented the A-6 hangar rent and the intent to lease A-7 to the Airport Board. Joe Wheeler asked that any proposals come to the airport board before going to the Public Works Director. The board is supportive of our concept and began asking questions about ADA access, security, etc. We are too early in the process to respond to these questions.

  1. On July 15, 2005, Jerry Sorrell met briefly with the City of Kelso Building and Planning Director, Kent Anderson.  Any modifications or proposals will have to go through the building department. Kent has never been in the Windsock. Jerry will request the building committee reconvene ASAP and have a walk through with Kent so we have an idea of what is before us in building code requirements.

  1. During the week of July 18-25, the building committee met and worked on a combination lease agreement that brought A-6 and A-7 together under one lease package. Jim Ylvisaker refined the document   and will provide copies to the Airport Advisory Board and the City Public Works Director.  Jerry Sorrell has also contact EAA HQ to request information on any adjustments for our liability insurance due to the added A-6 hangar

More on the hangar and future club events:

As you will see from the minutes, we have had a super busy past few weeks
with acquring hanger A-6 (next to the old windsock cafe) and the current
pursuit of a lease agreement with A7, the old Windsock cafe.  The building
committee has been hard at work and making great progress.  We owe a lot
of thanks to those guys for putting in a lot of hours for the chapter.  We
look forward to a report from our building committee.

We are seeking people who are interested in placing their planes or
projects in our newly acquired hangar A6.  We as a chapter need to decide
how best to select occupant(s) and the amount of the donation.  Please
come prepared with your thoughts.  There are least two people who have
expressed interest in the space.....

Sat Sept 10th is set aside for our chapter picnic. We will discus using
this as our Sept meeting - Thoughts?  We need some more volunteers to help
out with food etc.  I will bring a barbeque and the burgers but I am
looking for some help with:

1 More barbeque.
Bring Condiments - Mayonaise, ketchp, tomato, cheese etc.
Drinks:
Plastic forks, knives, spoons, plates, paper towels.
Desserts
Chips
Salads.
Extra garbage cans (Bev?)

I have a new DVD from EAA Headquarters that has a special invitation part
on AirVenture and the new sport Pilot Proram etc.  Not sure if we will
have time for it this meeting or view it later.  If anyone has special
interest in it call or email me.

I was contactec by a couple who are taking flying lessons the Kelso Flying
Service and they are interested in building a kit plane.  Their names are
Jeanne and Tyler Ramey.  They are going to try to make our meeting.

Hope to see you there!

Come to the meeting August 4th at 7 pm for the latest!
