EXEC MEETING January 4th AT 6 P. M. At Dwight's House
NEXT
CHAPTER MEETING THURSDAY
7:00P.M.,
January 5th, 2006 AT THE KELSO AIRPORT FBO
As most of you know we are set to acquire the
old Windsock Café better known as A-7. The
building committee, comprised of Jerry Sorrell - Dwight Irby - Al
Drewry - Mike Lewis, has done an outstanding job for our Chapter!
We may very well be able to take a walk through on
our meeting night Please come see our future
home! Also, The exec committee is meeting on
Wednesday Jan 4th at
6:00 p.m. at Dwight Irbys house to conduct business. We
will doing this on a regular basis in hopes of having our monthly
meetings with less time on boring business issues and more about
fun things like building and flying! Everyone is welcome at
both meetings.
Our New Facilities
In the December meeting, the board presented
to the membership our current and upcoming insurance
responsibility and utility costs.
With the start of 2006, we will have hangar 44 and 45, A-6 and the A-7 clubhouse. With these additional facilities come additional insurance obligations. Our EAA insurance for 2006 will be $848 for the year, which is required by EAA for the above facilities.
In addition, our new clubhouse will require
PUD, water, and sewer, in addition to the PUD bill for hangars 44
and 45.
Proposed
Increase in Dues
The board recommended the annual dues for
Chapter 1111 be increased to $48 per member. A show of hands
showed full support for this.
Hangar Keepers Liability Insurance
There is another insurance option that we
discussed but we did not take any action on it at the chapter
level. This is called the Hangar Keepers Liability Insurance.
This protects any current EAA chapter member for liability as a
result of damage to aircraft belonging to others (including
Chapter members) while in our care, custody or control. This is
optional coverage to consider, as we lease or loan hangar space
or may move any aircraft owned by others.
Possible Use of the Jim Ylvisaker Young
Eagles Memorial Fund
This fund may be combined with Kiwanis
Memorial Fund. Jim was a member of the local Kiwanis and within
the group, about $1,000 has been raised. Combined with the nearly
$1,000 donated to our chapter, the combination would make a nice
scholarship package on which to help a coupe of Young Eagle aged
youth further their aviation career. To safeguard that the
individuals were serious applicants, the funds would be available
towards the private license, after the solo. More details later,
as the executive board looks into this further.
Tech Report
Jerry Sorrell reported on the importance of
proper fabrication of fuel tank vents to prevent tank
collapse due to fuel pump created vacuum and how a vent may turn
into a siphon.
Other
Stuff
Bush Pilots at Play on the
Columbia River Sand Bars
While on a go nowhere burn gas flight a few
weeks ago, Jim McClellan and Jerry Sorrell observed from above a
Super Cub and Maule doing spot landings on the sand bars of one
of the islands on the Columbia. Seeing believing, as we watched
the Cub and the Maule from off shore touch their wheels in the
water and hydroplane to the shore, chop the power and stop within
a plane length on the sand. Sometimes the tail wheel was
still in the water. It appeared each pilot was trying to outdo
the other in who could perform the most daring feat. Charlie
Rosenzweig can report that not all landings turn out so well,
when the report comes in that a plane has wrecked.
AM FM Radio Donated to the Chapter
Henry Schmitt has donated to the Chapter a
brand new in the box AM FM table radio. This may be useful raffle
item or for background music in the clubhouse.
Next Meeting Thursday 7 p. m,
January 5th Kelso Airport FBO
Prepare for the chapter meeting in January
by paying the $48.00 dues for the year. We will still meet at the
FBO, but will tour our new A-7 clubhouse facility. It will
be in a vacant condition, awaiting our remodeling touch.
Over The Airspeed Red Line
As time permits, we will discuss how you, as
a pilot, may have gone over the Vne Red Line even
though the airspeed indicator did not reach that limit. How could
this happen that you became a test pilot and did not know it?
