EAA KELSO CHAPTER 1111 MEETING JUNE 1, 2006

THIS IS AN INFORMAL POT LUCK PICNIC STYLE MEETING

SHOW UP AROUND 6:30 AND EAT AT 7 PM, EAA HANGAR #44

Our A-7 clubhouse is under construction and hangar A-6 has an aircraft in it with engine repairs requiring space for tools, parts, pieces, and supplies. We hope the weather cooperates. Bring yourself and plane out to EAA hangar #44, and let’s do some rides too!

THE WEEDS ARE HISTORY

Our thanks to Mike Lewis and a crew of Grow-N-Control for weed control, at the A-7 parking area and around hangars #44-45.

A-7 CLUBHOUSE UPDATE

Recall that our lease for A-7 included that the City would give us a credit against our monthly lease for applicable construction improvements. The Remodel Committee has submitted a request for thousands of dollars of improvements to be considered in trade for lease payments. The Public Works Director and the City Manager will be taking this to City Council on Tuesday, June 6th. The Remodel Committee has written a letter to the city giving background on our chapter purpose and our request that the city give full consideration for the value of the improvements. If you can make to the City Council meeting at 7 pm, Tuesday, June 6th, this would be helpful in demonstrating our support of aviation in the community.

As of May 26, the building permit has still not been issued. It is  in review and apparently has been sent to the fire district for comment.

NEW FBO OPERATOR UNDER CONTRACT

Since the last meeting, the city approved the FBO contract for Denny Wise. He is now open for business and is restocking the inventory and adding aircraft for instruction. Mike Houtchens will be the chief mechanic.

KENNEWICK EAA PANCAKES

A few weeks ago, the McClellan and Sorrell RV-4’s went east for an EAA fly in breakfast at Kennewick. Being so close to Pasco, they also visited the Viper-jet project.

Summary of work activities posted by Dwight Irby

Steve Steinhoff proposed a work day on Saturday, May 6th. Repair water damaged sheetrock, close in bathroom walls, and revise plumbing and electrical to bathroom.

We looked at Formica samples 7728-58 blue @ $1.80 SF. We also looked at linoleum flooring sample, from Lowe’s @ $1.25 SF.

Dwight had obtained a quote of $2,000 to pout down new linoleum. For the work day, Steve and Al will need. Dwight has a refrigerator and stove to provide for the kitchen and will need a truck to move it from his place to A-7.

Summary: at the Chapter meeting announce a work day for Saturday and let’s see if we can get A-7 in shape to hold the chapter meeting there in June.

Chapter Meeting at Kelso FBO, 7 PM, Thursday May 4, 2006

The meeting was chaired by Steve Stienhoff in the absence of Charlie Rosenzweig who was on vacation.

Guests: Tom Stanton, Todd Heath,  Steve Canfield, Monty Hughes, Keith Hamilton and Chris McDonnell

Treasure’s report by Al Drewry:  Checking $709.67 Savings $14,487.46

A-7 Clubhouse Report

Jerry Sorrell and Dwight Irby gave a report on the A-7 clubhouse status. The paperwork for the permit has been turned in to the City of Kelso Building Department. Engineering and the fire district will also review it.

Steve Stienhoff appreciated the help of members who provided help or materials over the past month.

Dwight Irby reported that even in advance of the permit, he had a verbal Ok to install the new windows on both levels.

Jerry Sorrell said that the firewall requirements between A-7 and A-6 will be a 2 hours wall. This means  we will be adding sheetrock between  A-7 and the hangars to meet this requirement.

The Remodel Committee needs approval form the chapter to proceed with material purchase

MSC to unanimously approve up to $8,000 in material so the work may proceed.

Hangar Sign Up List

Jerry Sorrell reported that at the end of June, two hangars could be vacant. Jim McClellan may move from A-6 at the end of June and Sam and Sandy Archer intended to vacate EAA #45 at the end of June.  Jerry received a few replies from his request to have all chapter members report to him on possible hangar needs.

Steve Stienhoff has an interest in the “right of first refusal” on EAA #45.

Jerry Sorrell will consider A-6 @ $204 per month if there are no other takers.

Young Eagles

Harry Blair discussed this, as we have not formally taken action to hold a young eagle’s event.  The plan was for Charlie and Harry to meet and pull this together as to what we may do. ( Notre, as individuals ,we can provide Young Eagles rides at any time.)

Membership Drive

Mark Edwards report that we are now seeing the results of the invitational post cards sent out. Thank you Mark and also Eric Hoppe.

Travel Stories
Bob Taylor gave us an excellent report of going back east and flying out a Grumman 4 seater to be added to their flying club at Pearson airport. Much adventure at various FBO’s and in trying to find the good deals on fuel.

Dwight Irby and family went to  EAA Sun and Fun at Lakeland FL which was a great time. Dwight was impressed at how excited  his wife and son were, at hearing about the trip. Then he found out that they really had Disney World in mind, so it became a two-destination vacation, enjoyed by the whole family.

Keith Hamilton visiting EAA member, reported on his volunteer work parking planes  at Sun and Fun and going to the Leeward airport, and getting up close to the warbirds.

Tech Report:

Jerry Sorrell spoke on the FAA rules regarding maintenance that we can do as private pilots on certified aircraft, and as authorized repairmen on the experimentals that we have built.

Next meeting will be an informal picnic barbeque time at the A-7 clubhouse. (Note, this location may change due to ongoing work in A-7. We may go to hanger #44 on the NW corner of the field.

Once again, our next chapter meeting is on Thursday, June 1st at EAA Hangar #44, Kelso Airport.
