Minutes From Last Month
We talked about our up and
coming June 7th Fly In.
Eric Hoppe is sending out our Fly In information to various
chapters and Gary Trenner is sending info to the FBOs. Gary
reported we have our EAA insurance from Oshkosh in hand.
Mike and Bev Smith prepared a wonderful Salmon dinner with all the trimmings. It was wonderful. A big thank you to Mike and Bev.
Duane Wilson gave a wonderful
presentation on his flying experiences this past year. He has put
on about 270 hours flying his new RV9 A
It is a beautiful and very dependable airplane. That is a lot of
flying in anybody's book and I for one am very impressed. I want
to thank the Wilsons for a fun and interesting evening. His film
work was very good . We also want to thank Jerry Sorrell for the
use of his projector.
It was reported that our President Dwight Irby was on vacation in Mexico and our achor and foundation man Jerry Sorrell was in Italy. We wished them a great Holiday.
Vice Pres. Gary Trenner
May Meeting Teasers
Gail Goodat is a retired airline pilot who learned to fly in the backcountry of Idaho or Montana (??), flew for the Forest Service before she went to work for the airlines, and should have a lot of good stories to share.

Interesting Stuff
From somewhere on the internet...(ed)
This is a photo of the Global Hawk UAV that returned from the war zone recently under its own power. That's Iraq to Edwards AFB in CA non stop..... Notice the mission paintings on the fuselage.
It has actually flown over 250 missions. That's a lot of missions for a remotely-piloted aircraft. Just think of the technology and the skill required to fly it remotely. Nice thing about it is that the pilot is not in any danger because he controls it from a very comfortable control room at Edwards AFB.
On really long missions the Global Hawk can stay up for almost 2 days at altitudes above 60k. I t is controlled via satellite communication. It can fly missions from Edwards AFB to northern Alaska and back, non-stop. Basically, when they attack a target they come in at very high speed and fire their AMRAAMS and are gone without ever being seen. They have AWACS direct input and 360 degree situational awareness. The enemy will definitely have a morale problem before it is all over. The Global Hawk can taxi, take off, fly a mission, return, land and put itself back in the hanger with no pilot. This airplane is almost beyond belief

Flight to Christmas Valley and Mahogany Mountain
On Saturday, April 26, RV pilots McClellan and Sorrell took passengers Gary Trenner and Bianca Elmer on a flight to Christmas Valley OR. for breakfast. The trip was extend to include a stop at a private strip called Mahogany Mountain, very close to the Cowboy Tree Restaurant. The return home included a stop at Prineville for fuel.

Time for a face lift - If you have any ideas or comments, please let me know. I want your feedback. The chapter and the newsletter are only as good as the input and the energy of the members. I want your pictures, your stories, your thoughts. Don't be shy!! If you get an interesting link or something funny via the web, please don't hesitate to share it with me.
I hope to make this newsletter a place our members look to for vital information, a thing prospective members appreciate and are motivated to join, a link our fellow EAA'ers around the country look at to keep in touch.
