Important Dates -

Executive planning meeting: 6:00 pm on the last Thursday of every month in the clubhouse (Kelso hangar A7) All are welcome!!

Chapter meeting: First Thursday of every month in the clubhouse. Chow and socializing at 6:30, meeting, business, and program at 7:00

Looks like Hoppe got roped into being part of the program. He intends to have the new computer set up and running X-Plane. We will see who can fly.

Minutes From Last Month and the Executive Meeting

A nice night for a meeting, indeed.

The coffers have $2299.59 in checking and $3628.50 in savings. The chapter plans to pay back all the loans at this next meeting. The chapter will also be paying for the computer equipment.

Business: Plans are underway to apply concrete to the entryway apron holes. It will take about 9 cubic feet (1/3 cu. yd @ 4" thick) to fill the voids. Three options are being considered: Dwight will check local sources to see if "excess return" concrete may be available at a reduced or no cost; acquire bags of premix and use a mixer to do the work with a work party; purchase a small amount of redimix from United Rental and do the work ourselves. In addition, there are a few other building-related maintenance tasks that should be completed before winter.

The Young Eagles Day, either September 20 or September 27, will be finalized at the August 7 meeting. We are seeking volunteers to fly the Young Eagles. Eric has received the flight simulator components and will have the device operational before the event so that Young Eagles can experience being "in the cockpit" when they are not in the air. We will need "subject matter experts" to assist with the simulator. We also need subject matter experts to assist with the actual flights.

PANCAKES AT MULINO
The July 19th flyout to Mulino airport for the annual blueberry pancake breakfast was attended by the McClellan's, the Irby's and the Sorrell's. This fly in attracts many experimental and antiques, so it is just not breakfast that is an excuse to travel.
Following breakfast , the McClellan's and Irby's went to Independence airport for another fly in and lunch.

Gary Trenner talked about a trip over to Dr Bird's air museum outside Sandpoint, ID. He said it was the cleanest display he has ever seen... Simply spectacular.

The Windsock Cafe sign is finally painted over. Time for a new sign that speaks more for our Chapter. We will set a time to tag it.

We began talks about where to have the annual dinner. The Mansion seems like a natural choice. It is still up in the air.

FLY OUT TO PROSSER
This Saturday Augsut 9th, a fly out is planned to Prosser. Check out the web site

Interesting Stuff

Our New Flight Simulator - X-Plane

I talked to Randy, the main support person for X-Plane to help with getting some small issues ironed out. He is working crazy days at Oshkosh this week, he called me from his car. He says they have sold one copy of X-Plane every four minutes, twelve hours a day for the last seven days! Looks like they might have a good product

Reminder: Aviation Planning Council to Meet August 7 in Vancouver

On August 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., members of the Governor-appointed Aviation Planning Council will meet for the seventh time to continue work on the final phase of the Long-Term Air Transportation Study (LATS).

The meeting will take place at the Pearson Air Museum, located in the heart of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve at 1115 E 5th, Vancouver, WA 98661.

During the meeting, the Council will discuss strategic options and review public comments on the draft statewide aviation policies.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The Aviation Planning Council, as directed by state legislation (ESSB 5121), was appointed by Governor Gregoire in July 2007. The Council?s purpose is to use LATS Phases I and II findings, and include public input, to determine:

How best to meet commercial and general aviation capacity needs.
Which regions of the state are in need of improvement regarding the matching of existing, or projected, airport facilities and the long-range capacity needs at airports within the region expected to reach capacity before 2030.
Recommendations regarding the placement of future commercial or general aviation facilities to meet the need for improved aviation planning in the region.
More information about LATS is available at:
www.wsdot.wa.gov/aviation/LATS.

Editor's Comments

If you have any ideas or comments, please let me know. I want your feedback. The chapter and the newsletter are only as good as the input and the energy of the members. I want your pictures, your stories, your thoughts. Don't be shy!! If you get an interesting link or something funny via the web, please don't hesitate to share it with me.

I hope to make this newsletter a place our members look to for vital information, a thing prospective members appreciate and are motivated to join, a link our fellow EAA'ers around the country look at to keep in touch.
